DIY Heart Garland
Finishing off the week with another inexpensive Dollar Tree craft! Crafting is my happy place and a fun outlet for me. Today I’ve got a fun heart garland to share and I love how it is looking on my mantle. Garlands are so fun to make to celebrate any occasion and I think I’ve found the winning combination. To be extra festive I think I may make a new shape for each occasion and leave this up year round!
Now when I say inexpensive I mean this garland only cost me $4! You most likely already have some of these supplies at home so it could be even less cost to you.
Read below to find out how I made this cute DIY heart garland!
What you’ll need:
1 pack of wooden hearts (pack contained 8)
2 packs of wired twine
1-2 balls of yarn
Tape
Scissors
To begin, I wanted the hearts to all be about the same size so I used the wooden hearts as a template for all the others. I liked the look of the wood, twine and yarn combination for this neutral heart garland! This is a fun and easy craft.
The most time consuming part was bending the wired twine over and over to fill in the heart. Keep reading as I got step by step on how I made this heart garland!
What i did:
Yarn Heart
Yarn hearts! This cute yarn heart is something you can customize by trying out different sizes and colors.
I decided to stick with a neutral theme for this heart garland. Bonus I had leftover yarn from my Christmas yarn tree craft and a ball of white yarn that I never ended up using for a second tree.
Using the wooden heart as a template yet again, I traced 8 hearts on the dollar tree shopping bag. Reuse, reduce and recycle right? Stack 4 heart together to create your base.
Start wrapping your yarn around it and keep it as flat as you can. Don’t pull too tight or it’ll ball up!
Continue until you’ve covered all the paper and tie it in the back to secure the end.
Now take the other 4 paper bag heart cut outs and repeat.
I decided to do two different colors but you could also use the same color to do both or more.
Ta da! Two down and a few more to go!
Wired Twine Heart
To make this heart I used 1 pack of wired twine and according to the packaging the wired twine is 7 feet.
I used the wooden heart as an outline. Starting with the bottom and going around. Then bring the wired twine inside your outline and continue following the outline moving into the middle until it is all filled or used up. Tape the back to secure it!
Another idea would be to not fill in the heart and just create an outline.
If you create just the outline you should be able to make 2 possibly 3 hearts with the 1 pack of wired twine.
Put It All Together
Using the string from the pack of wooden hearts, loop through each of your hearts to hang up your heart garland. I just tied a simple top knot around the top leaving a shorter loop. I didn’t want the hearts to hang too low. If you want a fuller garland with more hearts I would cut the strings in half..
What I love about this heart garland is that you could easily make another shape for another holiday. The neutral look fits my home decor and I think it is something I will leave up year round. If you give this a try let me know because I would love to see how it turns out!
