When I was pregnant with my first I excitedly shopped the maternity section and spent quite a bit of money on an all new maternity wardrobe. In the end, I found that using items I have and mixing or matching a few new pieces saved me the most money. (See some of my bump style non maternity outfits at the end). I’m not saying to avoid buying maternity clothing all together as some basic items are a must in my opinion but when I figured out non maternity fashion finds that worked for me I stuck with it. I also never worked in a job where I needed to dress professionally daily so some of these tips may not work for you throughout your pregnancy.
That being said I have not been blogging much about this pregnancy so to get started I’m rounding up a few of my favorite non maternity fashion finds. This being my 7th pregnancy I’ve figured out what works for me. I’m sharing my favorite non maternity items plus some tips and tricks to extend the life of your existing clothing too so read below and find out!
Sweaters
I love oversized and comfy sweaters especially in the fall and winter months regardless if I am pregnant or not. This may not be the fit or cut you prefer but don’t worry I’ve got a fashion tip to help extend the use of your favorite sweater. Many of these sweaters worked for my entire pregnancy which is a win win since I wear them afterwards too. I love that I can utilize these non maternity fashion finds while I’m pregnant and when I’m not!
Here are a few of my favorite sweaters….

Lululemon
Fashion tip #1: if it is an oversized long sweater I have found that it works my entire pregnancy!
Fashion tip #2: If you have a favorite sweater that is somewhat loose fitting but it is not long enough just pair it with a high waisted maxi skirt or dress, tuck the sweater underneath so it hits just at the top of your belly. This cropped look will be a fun alternative and extend the use of your non maternity sweater and skirt/dress.
Tops
Nothing like having a few solid basics to switch things up! I found that sizing up in some of these tops worked even with my growing belly although this is one item that I would suggest to buy 2-3 maternity layering tops to wear throughout your pregnancy. Here are a few of my favorites….
H&M
Fashion tip: My favorite trick is to tuck or tie above your bump once these tops are no longer long enough to go over your bump. This way you can utilize basic pieces you’ve already got and save some money.
Biker Shorts
These go hand in hand with leggings but are different since there are so many different cuts and fits. I prefer a high waist and then roll down as I get closer to my due date. If you have a summer pregnancy these may be one of your new favorite items since leggings in the summer is too warm depending on where you live. Biker shorts give you the coverage, comfort and ease of leggings just shorter! Here are a few of my favorites….
Leggings
I am a sucker for a nice pair of leggings ranging from expensive to budget and full length to cropped. I have a few in different colors and price range but my favorite go to is a basic black legging. Throughout my pregnancy I am able to wear a high waist pair of leggings although the last week or two I tend to roll them down as the extra compression is uncomfortable. Here are a few of my favorite leggings….
Fashion tip: My height which is 5’2” for those that are shorter or about my height go for the 7/8 cropped or 25″ or 28″ as that tends to be the right length without any alterations or rolling!
Fashion tip: Jeans or any kind of button up pants take your hair elastic and loop through when you are in between to keep wearing your pants longer!
Senita – 7/8 Vinyasa High Wasited Capris
Dresses:
These are comfy non maternity dresses that worked for a lot of my pregnancy. As my bump got bigger the tshirt dresses got shorter so I added leggings underneath. If that doesn’t work for you then the maxi skirt or dress works great throughout! Here are a few of my favorites….
H&M Tshirt Dress
Fashion tip: When the tops are too short pull up your maxi skirt over your bump then tie to style it and cover your bump without looking like a balloon. Sometimes the looser clothing items make you look larger so utilizing two pieces keeps you comfortable and stylish!
Fashion tip: Take your favorite dress and add a top or sweater then tie or tuck in at the top above your bump to extend the use of it during winter months!
Here are a few photos of me in some of the non maternity fashion finds (linked above) throughout my pregnancy from when there was barely a bump, to a bump and now into my third trimester with this new baby due towards the end of this month!
I hope this helps give you some ideas on what you can utilize from your existing wardrobe to get you started on your bump style! There are so many more non maternity fashion finds for all seasons. Loved these ideas? Let me know in the comments what you’ve tried then save it or pin it below.
Great tips! They will come in very useful for my second pregnancy. Wish I knew about the biker shorts for my last one! Lol
